A9 discount on Amazon is killed off

Looks like A9 is no longer being supported. No word about it on the official blog, but attempts to log in lead to the service cancellation page. They also didn’t let it die quietly, any attempt to get into A9 toolbar is squashed at the moment. Which means no more Amazon A9 discount, although it was good while it lasted. Didn’t do anything meaningful to their search engine market share, and probably cost a penny to AMZN as well. A9 suffered substantially as Udi Manber and other prominent engineers left for some search engine company in Mountain View, but are nevertheless still hiring for mostly senior positions.

It looks they have an explanation here A9 What’s New? and it appears your right for the most part. I’m hoping it doesn’t completely fall apart though. Amazon may have unboxed the Unbox trash box but I think they have some otherwise interesting web-based projects going on that are pretty cool.

Amazon.com still shows the Pi discount logo and I see the discount when I try to check out, so apparently they’re still giving out the A9 discount as far as I can tell.

Yeah, A9 discount still shows up for me. Would love to stay that way forever, but something tells me it’s just an entry in their usage database that will eventually go away, as the usage goes down to zero.

Mine is gone. Your discount will be gone soon as well. That’s the official word from Amazon
