Are you a good photographer? Or just a plain copyright violator?

San Diego Union Tribune says Zee Helmick from Nevada took excellent pictures of her son on her digital camera. The photos were, in fact, so close to professional quality that local Wal-Mart refused to hand her the prints, suspecting Zee of copyright violation and requiring a copyright release form signed by the professional photographer. Last year digital camera owners made 27.4 bln digital prints, but in 1999 Professional Photographers of America sued KMart for failure to stop the reproduction of the copyrighted work, which alerted major retail chains about the danger of violating photographic copyrights. via
