Currently Circuit City has a pretty good price on Philips DVP5960, which I became the proud owner of today. Besides HDMI upconverting, the player has a nice feature of being quite acceptable of regional hacks.
Making DVP5960 cross-regional:
- Open the loading tray, but don’t put the DVD in.
- Press the “Setup” button on the remote.
- Scroll to Preferences.
- Enter 138931
- You will see the current region code displayed
- Use the Up/Down arrow keys to select the region required (or 0 for all regions)
- Press Setup again.
- Press OK
