Texas Instruments introduced a sub-$30 reference design for GPRS phones that combines RF, power management and memory in a single 35-chip package. Nothing extraordinary to excite feature freaks, who buy phones for their functionality and add-ons, but this could potentially bring out cheaper phones to the market, and allow all sorts of new usage models like disposable cell phones, etc.
