Top tech annoyances

Lance Ulanoff from PC Magazine lists several tech things that tick him off. Why is the time approximation for Internet downloads always jumping up and down in random fashion? For how long will Netzero advertise their fast dialup and call it “3G”? Why is the quality of the wireless link varies so drastically for no reason? And why is setting volume system-wide and for specific applications so hard to do in Windows?

My personal peeves – overly agressive firewall/antivirus packages that block some apps from accessing the Internet without specifically telling you what they’re doing, so you end up waiting half an hour for that installer to download Russian spellchecking library. Also, did hitting Repair on Windows Network Connections dialog ever repair anything?
