Vongo movie downloads service launched

Starz is launching a movie subscription service called Vongo that will compete with Apple iTunes. For $9.99 a month Vongo will offer a rotation of 1,000 movies. They have licenses for most of the Hollywood content that’s been out of the movie theaters for more than a year, and some exclusive deals with Disney and Sony. According to Reuters:

Vongo differs from the entrenched competitors which mostly offer movie download rentals on a pay-per-view basis. Vongo said it plans to give viewers access to a much wider breadth of films, which are also available on its cable channel.

Previously Starz tested the waters with Real Movies, a movie subscription service that never was really much of a threat to incumbents like MovieLink.
