I'm not sure, but are Americans so stupid to understand by their own that higher speed equals lower mileage? Does it require federal government or congress to point out this simple truth?

If there is a speed limit of 70 mph set by local government, that means it should be safe do drive 70 mph in this area. And it should be up to me if I'd like to save few $ driving 55 mpg or not.

I've voted Green, and I tend to drive at a moderate speed for safety and fuel economy, but I'm glad we abolished the national speed limit because frankly, THERE IS NO NEED. Let local government determine the speed limit. Have you ever drove across the plains? Been in a hurry? Sometimes 75MPH or 80MPH is nice. And while that is not exactly fuel-efficient, I'm not bothered by the occasional indulgence.

This sort of thinking begs the Federal government to create other obnoxious intrusions. Like, why not a federal time limit on showers of 5 minutes? That would save a lot of water and a lot of energy.

I say, let the free market sort this one out.

Cheers,
